Amazing while he was being gently removed from his perch on the station banking – and since it was feared the worst had happened to him – folk have been querying his whereabouts.
The artist creator of Hector Sue decided he had had a week facing the Pennine elements and it was time to be retired before anything else happened.
Hector has now retired back home – and thanks all those who have admired his proud Yorkshire greetings to all our visitors.
Even this grumpy editor has to admit that the Tour de France event was a resounding success.
Here at the Royd visitors were welcomed by Northern Rail staff – followed by a carnival atmosphere in the village.

As part of a regional project to have cycle storage facilities at stations – Mytholmroyd now has THREE places.
The Station Partnership, through the generousity of Graham Joyce and Fr Gott arranged for one in from of the Church.
Northern Rail then put a smaller one next to the Leeds shelter.
Now, the Cycling Forum have put one at the top of the Manchester approach.
So, you cyclists forget your car and get biking – but please remember it is against the railway bye-laws to cycle in station areas.
