Another Thriving year for our happy team

After a scrumptous lunch at York Racecourse, Deputy Chairman George and Shirley came back with another Yorkshire in Bloom award.

Well done everyone who braved the Mytholmroyd Monsoons and to all our sponsors and supporters.

Then Sue, George and I found our passports and went across the frontier to Llandudno for the annual Association of Community Rail Partnerships dinner.

Mytholmroyd  was nominated THREE times – once for the new Montage on Platform 2 and for two  photos of the group and local school sponsors.

We did not get an award but enjoyed the company of the new Northern Rail MD, Alex Hynes , and Stakeholder Manager, Drew Haley – support  from whom resulted in our Yorkshire friends at Bentham station getting  the top gong.

These occasions remind us how lucky we are to have the backing from a company like Northern Rail and  the managers.

Didn’t we do well?

Out of the 400 plus stations they operate, Northern Rail nominated us for the Best Station Adoption Group award 2012.

We are in a shortlist of 6 stations from around the country who will learn who is top-dog at the national Community Rail 2012 ceremony at Swindon on 30 September.

We did not get a Gong this time, but we all can be very proud how we have brought together a small community round the village railway station.

It can be fun – some of the time (when it stops raining!).

Next Dig-in was last Friday at 13.30 and there was no slacking.

Our faithful dozen or so got a lot of weeding and hedge trimming done – in the sunshine!

What a Great Team!!!!

Despite the Pennine monsoon rain and winds one Saturday morning, nearly 20 volunteers worked to put some colour into the railway station.

Thanks to everyone from the youngest to the more mature of those amongst our group.

The Yorkshire in Bloom judge was impress not only with the displays on the station, village green, Church of the Good Shepherd, Shoulder of Mutton and local residents – but the friendly people who came to meet him on Friday 25th July

See the entry below for the Awards

A good community effort, encouraged by Matt and Northern Rail.
