Yorkshire in Bloom 2012 – what a Great Community

Hi folks

Results of the Awards made at York on Tuesday.

Thanks to Fr John and his Church and to Barrie & Co. who made the effort to represent us at the ceremony – excellent lunch enjoyed by all.

The comments and suggestions are below :-

I think we can take on-board the cutting-back of vegetation etc.

Well done to everyone who have helped in whatever way to improve the station and surrounding area – shows what a great Neighbourhood and community we have, even though we (some of us!) do not know much about plants and pretty flowers.

Mytholmroyd Station Partnership Level Achieved: Thriving

Areas of Achievement

The group are to be congratulated for their dedicated efforts in the face of extreme

challenges. The station environs have been transformed giving users a pleasant and

enjoyable experience. All the hard work in the station, cleaning, painting and the

planning and planting up the new garden area by the volunteers is to be applauded.

The gardens seen in Streamside Fold were immaculate and extremely well maintained

as was the “village green” at the junction of Cragg Road and Scout Road. The group

clearly work successfully with a number of organisations, groups and individuals,

promoting participation and a pride in the area of which they should be very proud.

Further Development – Constructive/Helpful Remarks

The group have correctly identified the station building as an opportunity for future

community development, and the judges readily support this proposal and encourage

the group’s endeavours. The overgrown shrubs and climbing ivy screen the arches

and marvellous stonework of the station structure. It may be prudent to consider their

removal and replacement with lower growing shrubs for more colours and also open

up the views to the station structure.
