Good news for London-bound passengers who do not like going via Leeds or Manchester.

 4.5.4 Northern Rail Selby – Wakefield Westgate service flexed on the

hours when Grand Northern operates between Bradford and Halifax with no extension to journey times.

There should be the opportunity to make a comfortable connection into the first  departure to London off the 06.20 departure from t’Royd. Likewise, if on time, the last train should connect with the 23.00 from Halifax to t’Royd.

Then there is the interesting  journey round Pontefract, Knottingley and the Askern branch line to Doncaster and the East Coast Main Line to London.

Great to have a new trip opportunity, let us hope it is successful.

However, competitors Stagecoach have introduced a service from Halifax to London

This could have a serious affect on the proposed train service, especially as a return fare can be less than £10 and the overall journey time will not be much more.

Along with with our neighbours,  the 2009  Yorkshire in Bloom award – judging was on

Tuesday 21 July In Pennine monsoon conditions!

Both station volunteers and our neighbours welcomed the judge,

Malcolm Sunderland over coffee and biscuits kindly provided by Fr John Gott.

Eh, we had a reet good do.

October 2nd the Yorks in Bloom Judge, Malcolm Sunderland joined us for lunch at the Church of the Good Shepherd through the hosptitality of Fr John and the donations from Lyn at the Shoulder of Mutton and Cllr Christine Bampton-Smith and her free-range hens.

Yes, we have made a big difference to our village railway station over the last two year.

We might be a little biased, but this Summer our platform flower tubs have probably been the best for miles around.

There are things other than gardening to do in the Station Partnership – admin work,  designing a Website just for starters.

We have plans for the village station for 2010 – watch this space, even better – come and join in, it can be fun and the group is a great bunch of local folk.

Thanks to the crew that planted the Winter tubs on Sat 10 Oct – and thanks to Jason for his advice, duly put on the back of an envelope and read out to the ‘troops’, just like Munich 1938!!!!!

 The last train ran on the loop line from Manchester Victoria – through Oldham, Shaw and Crompton – to Rochdale on Saturday 3 October -  nowt but buses for a few years until the Metrolink trams start running.

We have had another  totally mindless attack of graffiti spraying.

It is pathetic that these vandals not only attack the property of a multi-billion pound company – but they have defaced and damaged the work of the local community and in particular the artwork by our local children.

It is heartening to find local people deciding these vandals should be identified and providing the British Transport Police with some names and addresses for further investigation.

We are proud to work in partnership with Northern Rail and their contractors, the British Transport Police and our local officers from West Yorkshire to clear this criminal damage.

Parents of railway trespassers are visited by the Police about the dangers their children face while loitering near the tracks.

Please do not hesitate to phone if you see or experience any problems at Mytholmroyd station or on the Caldervale line. 

If we do not help in this way, the authorities will not be aware of any problems that are upsetting the lcoal community.

We have had a super response from the Police forces and the railway management. It is up to us to continue to help them to keep the station and the railway as safe as possible.

When did Eastwood station close and when the staff withdrawn from Mythomroyd station?

From the man who about these things – Eastwood closed to passengers on 3 December 1951 and to freight on 18 May 1964.

Luddendenfoot closed to passengers on 10 September 1962 and to freight on 3 May 1965 the same day as Mytholmroyd. Any more?
