Get around Dewsbury for free from Saturday 12 December 2009Dewsbury’s FreeTownBus service will be operated by Star Travel and will run every 10 minutes Monday to Saturday daytime from 0730 to 1830 Mondays to Fridays and from 0830 to 1700 on Saturdays.

The service will run around Dewsbury Town Centre starting and terminating at Dewsbury Bus Station and will serve Dewsbury Health Centre, Dewsbury Rail Station, the market and central shopping areas, Dewsbury Retail Park including Sainsbury’s, and the Leisure Centre.

From the same date service 995, operated by Halifax Joint Committee, between Dewsbury Bus Station and Sainsbury’s will be withdrawn.

Fancy a helping hand around Halifax with all the Christmas Shopping?

From Monday 30 November until Saturday 9 January 2010, a free festive shopper service will operate in Halifax Town Centre. Starting and terminating at Halifax Rail Station, it will serve the Piece Hall, the central shopping area, including the markets and Woolshops, the library, Halifax Bus Station, the Post Office, Harvey’s, the Victoria Theatre and Wards End.
 
The service will be operated by The Halifax Bus Company (TJ Walsh) and will run every 12 minutes Monday to Saturday daytime between 1000 and 1600 except for Thursday 3, 10 and 17 December 2009.

THE YORK YULETIDE EXPRESS

The Railway Touring Company are again running their Yuletide Express from Liverpool to York via Manchester Victoria and Rochdale.

The booked steam locomotive is Stanier Pacific 6210Princess Elizabeth.

Just received details from METRO if you are venturing out and about.

Here are the detailed train service arrangements for the West Yorkshire area over the Christmas and New Year holiday period 2009/10 which you may find useful. I hope I’ve picked it all up right!

Northern local services will operate normally, apart from early closedowns on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve when trains will operate until approximately 2000 and will then start to run down. Few late evening trains after 2200 will run. First TransPennine Express will operate similarly with some evening trains terminating short of advertised destination. No rail services will operate on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. On New Year’s Day there will be some early morning Northern cancellations before 0700 after which the normal weekday service will operate. 

Full details of Northern and First TransPennine Express alterations throughout the period are included including cancelled and amended trains, last and first trains operated on each route. Details of other long distance operators’ altered trains are not included. Please refer to each operator’s web site for full timetables for each day. The new East Coast operator will be operating special timetables throughout the holiday period with reduced frequencies on some days.  NXEC will be handing over operation to DfT Directly Operated Railways from midnight tonight. First TransPennine Express, CrossCountry and East Midlands Trains’ services will be subject to alteration throughout the period. For the first time First TransPennine Express will not be operating late evening and overnight trains on New Year’s Eve/ New Year’s Day.

There will be some engineering works affecting local train services over the weekend of 2/3 January 2010 with widespread disruption on the Caldervale Line between Leeds and Bradford Interchange and on the Hallam and Penistone Lines.

A new rail timetable will be introduced on Sunday 13 December 2009. Timetables for each route are now available on the Metro web at http://www.wymetro.com/TrainTravel/traintimetables/ The Network book will follow shortly. Hard copies will be available by the end of November

Yes, we have made a big difference to our village railway station over the last two year.

We might be a little biased, but this Summer our platform flower tubs have probably been the best for miles around.

There are things other than gardening to do in the Station Partnership – admin work,  designing a Website just for starters.

We have plans for the village station for 2010 – watch this space, even better – come and join in, it can be fun and the group is a great bunch of local folk.

Thanks to the crew that planted the Winter tubs on Sat 10 Oct – and thanks to Jason for his advice, duly put on the back of an envelope and read out to the ‘troops’, just like Munich 1938!!!!! 

Interested? Monthly Dig-in for an hour started at 13.30 on second Fridays. Monthly meeting on second Tuesdays at the Church of the Good Shepherd starting at 19.30.

Most gardening sessions this year have been in torrential rain – our group trip to Blackpool was no different!

 4.5.4 Northern Rail Selby – Wakefield Westgate service flexed on the

hours when Grand Northern operates between Bradford and Halifax with no extension to journey times.

There should be the opportunity to make a comfortable connection into the first  departure to London off the 06.20 departure from t’Royd. Likewise, if on time, the last train should connect with the 23.00 from Halifax to t’Royd.

Then there is the interesting  journey round Pontefract, Knottingley and the Askern branch line to Doncaster and the East Coast Main Line to London.

Great to have a new trip opportunity, let us hope it is successful.

However, competitors Stagecoach have introduced a service from Halifax to London

This could have a serious affect on the proposed train service, especially as a return fare can be less than £10 and the overall journey time will not be much more.

It is always adviseable to check especially before you travel at weekends.

Along with with our neighbours,  the 2009  Yorkshire in Bloom award – judging was on

Tuesday 21 July In Pennine monsoon conditions!

Both station volunteers and our neighbours welcomed the judge,

Malcolm Sunderland over coffee and biscuits kindly provided by Fr John Gott.

Eh, we had a reet good do.

October 2nd the Yorks in Bloom Judge, Malcolm Sunderland joined us for lunch at the Church of the Good Shepherd through the hosptitality of Fr John and the donations from Lyn at the Shoulder of Mutton and Cllr Christine Bampton-Smith and her free-range hens.
